The University of Georgia (UGA) College of Pharmacy and the Augusta University Medical Center (AUMC) has provided a 12-month ASHP Accredited PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency program since 2011. The residency practice sites are the 478 bed Augusta University Medical Center & the Georgia Cancer Center located in Augusta, GA. The Georgia Cancer Center serves as a regional outpatient adult cancer treatment center specializing in bone marrow transplantation, oncology investigational clinical trials (Phase 1-3), gynecological oncology, hematologic disorders and malignancies, and solid tumor malignancies. The Children’s Hospital of Georgia within AUMC offers the area’s only pediatric cancer and blood disorders treatment center. This post-graduate experience provides comprehensive training in all areas of practice, including stem cell transplantation, ambulatory care (oncology, hematology, BMT), pediatrics, gynecology oncology, and hematology/oncology. Residents are actively engaged in patient-care clinical activities, training of Pharm.D. students, and are responsible for completing a high-quality research project and additional medical writing project suitable for publication in a professional journal. Residents are appointed as graduate students for the College of Pharmacy whereby UGA awards a graduate certificate for successful completion of the residency program. For those residents previously completing a Teaching and Learning Program during PGY1, advanced teaching experiences are offered. The breadth of clinical, teaching, and research opportunities provided through this residency allow graduates to successfully transition into a variety of career settings.
