POSITION OVERVIEW The IF Operator performs all of the manufacturing functions necessary to produce IF yarns. The operator will normally rotate through all IF assignments (first floor, second floor, and troubleshooting). The operator will be a member of a shift team led by a shift team leader. A Lean Manufacturing concept is used to minimize downtime and increase productivity with emphasis on producing A-grade product for tire and air bag end uses. TARGETED OUTCOMES * Ensures Health and Safety is the number one priority by adhering to all safe work practices, policies, and processes and operations in a secure manner always * Monitor and make sure product meets all quality specifications report any off standards immediately to make sure they are corrected KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Performs first floor, second floor and troubleshooting responsibilities. * Change packs, wipe spinnerets, clean draw rolls, lace-up and doff spin positions, and inspect/pack finished product. (Packages weigh up to 22 lbs.) Learning and following the IF Lean manufacturing principles and procedures are required. * Prepare and inspect tubes and bobbins and place the identification labels inside the bobbins. * Top off finish tanks each shift and, when needed, move finish tote bins into feeder positions using a forklift truck. * Perform minor maintenance tasks and assist maintenance when in the area. * Troubleshoot machine/process performance issues and follow escalation process if needed. * Maintain a high level of cleanliness and order in the operating area and associated facilities. * Assist the Shift Technician in training new operators. * Comply with all safety/health related policies and procedures, participate in company sponsored safety programs and activities, and report to management those conditions or actions by employees or others that might create a hazard to themselves or others in the plant. Reports any work-related injury or illness, no matter how minor, to their supervisor or lead. * Maintain housekeeping on assigned machines and in areas. * Assist in machine start-ups and shutdowns. * Must be able to work call-ins, unscheduled hours, and overtime as needed. * Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts. TEAM * Reports to: Manufacturing Supervisor REQUIRED EXPERIENCE * Minimum Education Requirements: High school diploma or GED. * Manufacturing Experience preferred. * Associates degree, military training, and/or related experience is a plus. * Good operating knowledge of IF process (Fully certified to perform all operator tasks, sense when there is a process problem, provide troubleshooting assistance to technical personnel and know what to expect when certain conditions exist.) * Operating knowledge of IF equipment (Fully certified to operate all appropriate equipment in assigned area safely and correctly, detect when equipment is not operating properly or failure is imminent, perform minor maintenance duties, understand basic process role of each piece of equipment.) * Good communication skills (Share information with fellow team members, technical personnel, and supervision in an understandable manner; fill out necessary paperwork; request services or document certain activities; conduct team meetings; counsel team members on concerns/problems.) * Knowledge of area specific computer systems and programs (Change process conditions, monitor process variables, troubleshoot process/machine problems, send/receive cc: mail, order area supplies, SAP.) * Full understanding of yarn identification system (Prepare bobbin labels, identify yarn types and processes, ensure correct merge labeling of final product, trace yarn production especially during MY periods, prevent mixes of different yarn types.) * Possesses a forklift operation license (Locate finish tote bins, move finished product to the appropriate destination.) * Expected to learn/perform first floor, second floor, and troubleshooting responsibilities. BASIC ASSESSMENT * SC WorkKeys Math, Reading and Locating with a score of 4 or higher. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT * Must work where the noise level requires hearing protection. * May be exposed to various hazards such as corrosive chemicals (acetic acid for autoclave acid boil), steam, molten polymer, equipment related dangers, etc. * Routine safety equipment: long sleeves, safety shoes, hard hat, ear plugs/muffs, safety glasses * Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. * Ability to push/pull buggies or carts up to 200 lbs. * Ability to carry 25 lbs. or less. * Capable of climbing flights of stairs or ladders. * Working at heights * Capable of walking/standing 8-10 hours per day.
