Doctors Hospital of Augusta is a 354-bed HCA facility located near
the Georgia-South Carolina border. Doctors Hospital is well known
for its Joseph M. Still Burn Center, the largest burn center in the
country, which sees more than 3,000 patients annually. In addition,
the burn center was recently granted a special burn designation as
part of the Georgia Trauma Care Network. This designation included
a rigorous review program administered by the American Burn
Association (ABA) and the American College of Surgeons (ACA).
Doctors Hospital is certified as a Primary Stroke Center, as well
as an Accredited Chest Pain Center. Doctors was recently the first
hospital in the area to be designated a Center of Excellence in
Women's Health Surgery. And was one of 244 hospitals nationally to
be named a top performer for Key Quality Measures by The Joint
Commission. Doctors Hospital was also recognized as one of only 17
hospitals in the state of Georgia placed in the Chairman's
Category, the highest category attainable, by the Georgia Hospital
Association for clinical outcomes. This means that Doctors hospital
scored in the top five percent of all Georgia Hospitals in patient
outcomes for conditions including acute myocardial infarction,
heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care improvement project

We are searching for a new CHILD LIFE SPECIALIST for a full-time
position in our inpatient and outpatient Burn Departments.
* Plans and provides therapeutic intervention and appropriate
psychosocial/developmental care under the general supervision and
direction of the Child Life Coordinator for pediatric/adolescent
patients and families to assist them in effectively coping with the
stress and anxiety of health care experiences as well as to
maximize the growth and development of children and adolescents in
the hospital setting.
* Assesses patients and facilitates play interactions with regard
to developmental level, interest, capabilities, special concerns,
life situations, and stress vulnerability potential related to
illness, injury and health care.
* Formulates and revises child life patient care plans to develop
appropriate strategies for child life care in conjunction with
other health team members.
* Provides therapeutic child life care for patients/families based
upon the needs assessment and patient care plan. This includes
medical play activities, psychological preparation, teaching
effective coping behaviors, and staying with children through
procedures to help implement effective coping behaviors.
* Provides supportive relationships, emotional support, information
and role modeling to patients and family members to foster
appropriate interaction with children in a hospital setting.
* Develops implements and evaluates child life care plans and
programs to encourage optimum growth, development and self-esteem
of children and adolescents, and to facilitate functional family
* Assists in the maintenance of a safe and therapeutic patient care
* Maintains age-appropriate supply of therapeutic play
* Participates in continuing education programs and remains abreast
of advances in child development and programs for hospitalized
children; provides interdisciplinary in-service education on child
development, child life, and the impact of illness, injury and
health care on patients and families.
* Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and evaluations Assists
in assessing patient/family needs for outpatient psychosocial care
and recommending referrals.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Child Life or a related field,
orequivalency; Related Bachelor's Degrees could be Child
Development, Child Psychology, Education or Counseling.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS: Certification as a Child Life Specialist
required within one year of hire; BLS required upon hire.
EXPERIENCE: One year related experience or Child Life Internship
