We ask 'Why' so we can deliver the 'How'.This position reports to the Operations Manager and will lead a team consisting of direct reports to include the Warehouse Supervisor, Shipping Coordinator, and drivers in addition to multiple indirect reporting warehouse employees including the Warehouse and Assembly Leads.The Distribution Manager will manage all warehousing, assembly, and shipping activities from both the manufacturing and distribution centers collocated in Thomson, GA. The Thomson manufacturing site is a hub providing finished products to Premier Packaging distribution centers located in Augusta, Stone Mountain, and Thomson, GA.The tasks listed below describe the major responsibilities of the position but should not be considered inclusive.Essential FunctionsShipping

  • Manage all manufacturing transfers and customer deliveries from both facilities in Thomson
    • Requires close working relationship with both Manufacturing and the Distribution Centers to ensure product flows seamlessly from the manufacturing take-off line and that trailers and drivers are appropriately positioned
    • Prepare the daily load schedule lineup, load arrangement, scheduled stops, dock times, resource availability, and asset utilization to include decisions on when to utilize 3rd party carriers
      • Demand secured trailer load arrangements with excellent visual appearance
      • Execute efficient, on time, and accurate deliveries to our customers and distribution centers
      • Communicate of on all shortages and non-ships to Customer Service and Sales
        • Accurate paperwork, bill of ladings, and completeness of transactions
        • Ensure fleet is operating within the law and fully compliant with all regulations governing both local and interstate commerce
        • Coordinate claims
          Receiving/Storage
          • Accurate receipt of all products into the distribution center to include efficient put away activities
          • Responsible for unit appearance, proper warehouse stacking, adequate banding, and cleanliness with organized aisleways and storage bins
          • Enforce product preservation, storage, identification, traceability, and control of nonconforming product and ensure proper disposition, root-cause, and corrective actions are executed through process improvement teams, CAR responses, and quality control initiatives
          • Manage cycle count program where bins are counted and accurate per the defined Key Performance Indicator (KPI)
            General Responsibilities
            • Personnel Management
              • Oversee employee evaluations and ensure they are conducted on schedule
              • Ensure that supervision applies the attendance bonus and Quality Bonus Program consistently
              • Ensure that Supervision is actively engaged in their responsibilities and execution of their responsibilities
              • Enforce safety rules and safe place work habits on a continual basis
              • Ensure safe operation of all personnel and manage all accident investigations
              • Oversee all disciplinary efforts
              • Ensure staffing levels are appropriate for the dynamic workload
              • Thorough understanding of KPIs and the factors that impact them
              • Participate in the budgeting and management of the distribution center
              • Manage preventative maintenance program
                Job Requirements:
                • High School Diploma, some college preferred
                • 5-7 years of previous management / supervisory experience in an industrial environment, specifically within shipping and inventory management
                • Critical thinking skills - The ability to sort, analyze and interpret data; comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions; using effective approaches for choosing a course of action and developing appropriate solutions; taking action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.
                • Strong leadership, people management, communication and organization skills
                • The ability to oversee all facets of day-to-day warehouse operations.
                • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications (e.g. MS Excel & MS Outlook)
