JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Certification or Licensure: N/A

Skills: Proven leadership ability, excellent organizational skills, experience in assigning, training, counseling, and communicating with people.

Work Experience: (5) Years of extensive experience in operation includes supervision of personnel. Must have considerable knowledge of warehousing, distribution, and custodial practices. Committed to providing excellent customer service. Ability to plan, delegate, and follow-through with tasks and responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office applications, School Dude, and Google applications. Demonstrated ability to work within diverse environments. Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Extensive knowledge of cleaning commercial buildings.

PRIMARY DUTY

To ensure that all facilities in the Richmond County School System are maintained daily at an elevated level of cleanliness and to provide a safe, healthy, and clean environment for all students and employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruit and recommend assignments for competent personnel.
  • Assist principals and department heads in the organization of detailed daily work schedules for each plant in the school system.
  • Assist principals and department heads in solving special problems concerning the care and cleaning of their school plant.
  • Participate in the development of and monitor the assigned budget.
  • Authorize purchases of supplies and equipment for custodial services under the Senior Director of Operation.
  • Inspect all school buildings periodically and complete a report on their cleanliness.
  • Ensure conformity with work orders.
  • Ensure safe work practices and procedures are followed.
  • Respond to questions and complaints and work to ensure satisfactory resolution.
  • Ensure adequate supply inventory.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and competent reports, correspondence, and other written materials
  • Estimate time and material requirements for assigned projects.
  • Recommend and implement work methods and procedures.
  • Responsible for the repair and ordering of parts for machinery.
  • Be willing to respond to emergencies in off-hours, as necessary.
  • Provide work and safety instruction to staff.
  • Plan, organize and conduct the monthly training program for Custodial Personnel.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the district's custodial program and perform related work as assigned.
  • Plan, schedule, assign, review, and direct the work of staff engaged in custodial services activities.
  • Test custodial chemical supplies, and equipment and make recommendations to the Sr. Director of Maintenance and Facilities.
  • Develop work standards, time and motion studies, and procedures for all custodial personnel.
  • Develop, implement, and interpret goals, policies, procedures, and work standards for custodians.
  • Provide prompt receipt and distribution of all custodial equipment repairs.
  • Analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and make creative decisions and recommendations.
  • Exercise sound, independent judgement within general policy guidelines.
  • The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned, or required by such employee's supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission. Display Knowledge of:
  • Basic supervisory principles and practices.
  • Methods, material, tools, and equipment.
  • Safe work methods and safety precautions related to the work.
  • Application codes and regulations
  • Modem cleaning methods and preferred methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls, and fixtures; tools, supplies, and equipment required in custodial service work; cleaning materials, disinfectant, and equipment.
    WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    The ability to sit, stand, or walk for an extended period of time, tolerate repetitive motions and prolonged periods on time viewing a computer screen, lift and carry up to 40 pounds, manually move, push, or pull heavy objects, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, or turn, climb ladders, and have the ability to operate equipment such as power scrubbers, buffers, etc.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Frequent evening, weekend or night work required, etc. Attendance at evening School Board meetings required. Requires traveling to various sites on a frequent and unscheduled basis.
