Job Title: RN Infection Preventionist Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Infection Prevention Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 2 years in a clinical nursing role required. Demonstrated knowledge of basic principles of epidemiology, surveillance, data collection, and analysis. Description: The RN Infection Preventionist is a registered professional nurse who functions under the direction of the Infection Prevention Manager. Responsibilities include hospital surveillance to identify healthcare-related infections and ensure public reporting for mandated healthcare-associated infections. The IP assists with the development of policies and procedures. Education of patients and team members is a vital part of the role. The RN routinely audits and makes physical rounds to monitor infection prevention practices including construction, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization. Key responsibilities include conducting surveillance for healthcare-associated infections and epidemiologically significant organisms as specified in the Infection Prevention Plan. Utilization of current definitions and data collection is critical. The RN accurately inputs data and runs validation reports. Participation in internal and external validation of data is required. Confirmation and investigation of potential clusters and outbreaks are essential tasks. The RN participates in environment of care rounds and oversees infection prevention-related corrective actions. The position facilitates activities to ensure compliance with hand hygiene and isolation requirements. Maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance is paramount. The RN maintains accurate surveillance records and enters data into repositories. Reporting diseases to local and state public health authorities as required by law is essential.
